PARENT-FACULTY ASSOCIATION (PFA)
PFA BACKGROUND
In 1993, the informal network of parents was formally organized into the MCS Parent Faculty Organization (PFA).
The objectives of the Montessori Community School Parent-Faculty Association (PFA), in keeping with the goals of furthering a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation among parents, students, faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees of MCS are:
-
To provide direct support to the individual classrooms and teachers through work parties; and to provide resource coordination for speakers, excursions, and other curriculum-enhancing activities as requested by the faculty and/or administration.
-
To provide educational programs and seminars for parents, faculty, and the general public in order to promote better understanding of Montessori philosophy and education as well as parents skills.
-
To provide support activities to the parents of the school, such as car pool coordination; possibly arranging early drop-off child care; to promote informal social gatherings for parents, faculty, and administration to get to know each other; and to generally provide a source of moral support for the parents.
-
To assist the Development Office in organizing and managing the fundraising activities of the school.

PFA Meetings will be held monthly in the office Conference Room on the first Tuesday of every month from 4:00-5:20 p.m. The exception is the first meeting of the year, which will be held on Tuesday, September 11. All MCS families are members of the PFA, and meetings are open to all MCS parents.
Childcare, in our After-School Care programs, is available at no charge to MCS children during the meeting time. Please call the office at 522-0244 to request childcare if your children are not already enrolled in our After-School Care programs.
BoxTops for Education
The PFA participates in the BoxTops for Education program, and funds collected from this
easy program are used to enhance the PFA's programs, in particular, the Teacher Appreciation
Day. The first collection is submitted by November 1, and the second is submitted by March 1.
Collection boxes are available in each classroom and the office.
