Giving at MCS

Mahalo for your support!

"The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence."

- Dr. Maria Montessori

When you make a gift to Montessori Community School (MCS) you are investing in our students and giving them the opportunity to receive an "education for life." We help our students to develop a lifelong enthusiasm for learning, a commitment to the community, and a stewardship of the natural world. There are many ways that you can make a difference at MCS, and it's important to us that your gifts are used in a way that brings you joy. Here are a few ways to support MCS:

  • OUTRIGHT GIFTS. Outright Gifts include immediate donations of cash, real estate, securities, and assets.

  • NAMED ENDOWMENT FUND. Would you like to create your own fund and support a cause that you feel For the donor who would like their gifts to grow and affect the classrooms, facilities, tuition assistance program and professional development opportunities of MCS in the long term. $25,000.00 initial gift, with additions in any amount

  • PLANNED GIVING. For the donor who would like to make a meaningful gift to MCS while also achieving his or her own financial and philanthropic goals. As with virtually every other independent school in the US, tuition covers only a portion of the cost of each student’s experience at Montessori Community School. By contributing to this fund, you are providing us flexibility to address our school’s greatest needs. With your help MCS is able to:

  • Equip our classrooms with authentic Montessori materials.

  • Make Montessori education accessible to families in need of tuition support.

  • Offer professional development and training opportunities to our teachers and staff.

  • Maintain and improve our campus and playgrounds to keep our students safe and happy.

  • Other operating expenses.

Sit and forget it! Becoming a member of the Pink Tower Society, our monthly giving program, makes supporting MCS easy and convenient. Making a large, annual gift can be intimidating. But smaller monthly gifts are much more manageable, and can add up quickly. For example, for the price of a cappuccino, a $5 monthly gift becomes a $60 annual gift. And a $25 monthly gift becomes a $300 annual donation! All Pink Tower Society are listed in our Annual Report.

This fund was recently established by Mark Weber, and his wife Karen, in honor of his sister, Patricia Weber to provide resources to students with special needs. In 1972, Mark’s parents, Marilyn and Wayne Weber, founded the Katrice Montessori School (now known as Montessori Community School) to accommodate the special needs of their daughter, Patricia, who has Down Syndrome. With the support of family, friends, and teachers, Patricia has accomplished much and is living a full and rewarding life.

This fund was established in 2018 following the retirement of Jerry Mueller who served for 43 years as a teacher at MCS. Jerry had a remarkable career, helping hundreds of children to develop a lifelong enthusiasm for learning and a commitment to bettering our world. Although his passing in December 2020 has left an ache in our hearts, we are grateful for your gift that honors his legacy.

This year, we’ve expanded the scope of the Jerry Mueller Teacher Training Fund. In addition to helping teachers with their Montessori certification, this fund will also be used to provide teachers with other professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with the latest Montessori teaching methods. This dual-purpose goal will help MCS to fulfill its mission of providing an unparalleled Montessori educational experience.

The Children’s Education Endowment Fund was established in 2015, with the support of:

  • The James P. Cowen Memorial Fund

  • The Sharie & Kenneth Hamai Memorial Fund

  • The Hong Kin & Clara Hoo Memorial Fund

  • The Ignas Vaiceliunas Memorial Fund

By contributing to this fund, you are making Montessori education accessible to families in need of tuition support. Last year, MCS awarded over $48,000 in tuition support to 15 families, giving their children the opportunity to receive an unparalleled Montessori education.
